In the summer of 2008, Hoss Zaré bought The Fly Trap, a historic restaurant that holds a special significance to him. It was the first kitchen he ran after moving to San Francisco from Iran in 1986. In many ways, Zare’s return to The Fly Trap was a homecoming.

When Zaré purchased the space it had all the original interior elements: rarities in our current dining landscape such as tin tile ceilings and antique-style prints covering the walls. Zaré kept these beautiful accents intact in order to remind diners of the history of  The Fly Trap, established in 1906.

The rest, he changed. Zaré envisioned a gathering place his friends would rush to as soon as they are off work: a modern setting that would make diners feel relaxed and sophisticated all at once.

The new Zaré at Fly Trap offers a regularly changing bistro-style menu, showcasing fresh ingredients from local Bay Area farms and markets. In style, the cuisine is Mediterranean with Persian influences. The restaurant’s dessert list, created by Marisa Churchill, and cocktail program, designed by Reza Esmaili, echo the menu’s Mediterranean and Middle Eastern inspiration. Master Sommelier Chris Blanchard has designed a sensational list of wines from regions both exotic and local.

Zaré at Fly Trap serves continuously from 11:30 a.m. until midnight on weekdays. The restaurant opens at 6 p.m on Saturday for dinner and the bar is open until 1 a.m. every day except Sunday. No matter when diners find themselves at the restaurant, they are treated as guests in the home of Hoss Zaré, a man who has made a name for himself based on an over-the-top sense of hospitality and a lusty cuisine that resonates with his passionate nature.
